The TBI team

Melinda Kenneway, Director
Melinda has worked in scholarly communications since 1992, the majority of that time spent with Oxford University Press where she latterly held the post of Marketing Director for the Journals Division.

Melinda has huge experience of working closely with small publishers and societies to help them meet their commercial and social goals. She also has the experience of working as part of a large publishing organization to create new business opportunities, reduce costs, and take advantage of new technologies to build close relationships with customers.

With TBI, Melinda has broadened her experience through working with many other kinds of organizations across the scholarly communications sector including libraries and content aggregators.

Melinda is an active member of the publishing community, speaking at industry events on marketing strategy and providing training for ALPSP (Association of Learned and Society Publishers).

Biggest passion: writing fiction when work allows!

Joseph Kenneway, Director
Joseph is a graduate in Social Science who has over 20 years’ experience in marketing communications, his key area of expertise being in creative communications, encompassing public relations, campaign development, brand and graphic design.

Joseph's early career was in publishing where he worked for Blackwell Science and others. From here he expanded his experience, working as Creative Director for a communications agency on the outskirts of London for clients that included international blue-chip companies such as Ford and BP.

Since establishing TBI in 1997 he has conducted marketing and design campaign work for organizations across the publishing, educational, public service, and charitable sectors.

Biggest passion: Joseph is an amateur thespian in his spare time, and numbers Macbeth and Caliban among his roles. Look out therefore for the occasional quirky hairstyle or impending facial growth.

Charlie Rapple, Head of Marketing Development
Charlie's strong working knowledge of the scholarly information market results from several years at the interface of publishers and libraries. She started her career at CatchWord and progressed, via mergers with Ingenta and VISTA, and multiple roles (including linking and discoverability management, product management and marketing management) to directing group marketing for Publishing Technology. Her expertise in publishing and marketing technologies is key to her role developing TBI's services to meet the evolving needs of scholarly publishers.

Charlie is a pro-active member of the information community; she serves on the UKSG’s main committee and its marketing sub-committee, and started its LiveSerials blog. She is currently chair of the UKSG- and NISO-sponsored KBART working group which aims to increase the usage of scholarly literature by improving metadata distribution.

Charlie speaks regularly at conferences and frequently authors papers for industry publications including Learned Publishing, Serials, Against the Grain and Research Information. She holds a BA from the University of Bristol and a postgraduate MDip from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, of which she is a chartered member. In her spare time, Charlie writes to The Times, listens to vinyl and messes about on rivers.

Rachel Gant, Marketing Manager
After graduating with a BA (Hons) Marketing degree, Rachael started her career working for RM - a leading provider of IT and software solutions to the UK education market. She quickly worked her way up to the role of Customer Business Manager where she was instrumental in building a successful customer advocacy programme. Rachael has considerable experience in CRM practices and has been responsible for leading several successful marketing programmes.

Rachael joins the TBI team from The Lines Group (marketing and design agency) where she held the position of Account Manager. She is now using her wider commercial and educational marketing experience to support the work she is doing at TBI – bringing new ideas and approaches to the work we undertake on behalf of our clients in the publishing world. Rachael continues to develop and update her marketing knowledge, and holds a postgraduate diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Su Dore, Designer
Su holds an honours degree in Fine Art from Manchester Polytechnic and an ICM Diploma in Media Studies and Media management. She has worked in design since graduating. Following periods in a general design studio and subsequently as an in-house designer, Su joined TBI in 2003 and works across the full range of client briefs. She particularly enjoys the challenge of blending aesthetics with the practical requirements of delivering effective marketing messages.

Biggest passion: belly dancing!

Camilla joins the TBI team having previously held an Account Manager role in an agency providing marketing communications for Mercedes-Benz. Prior to this, she worked in a variety of not-for-profit, construction and publishing organizations.

Camilla’s publishing experience includes working in marketing roles within both large and small publishing environments.
